Ask the marauders
The last thread was getting a little cluttered, so here's a new one!

Dear male Marauders:
Can you help me decipher what this statement meant? I was talking to a friend of mine about a girl he's got the hots for. I pointed out that sure, she's nice but she has the IQ of tree bark. What about conversation? Sense of humour? What is he going to talk to her about when they're not in bed? He looks at me and says "That's what I have you for."
Should I be miffed? Guys don't like me in that way. They just want to be friends and drinking buddies.
Just call me Clueless in College Station.
Attempting to decipher male speech? Good luck.
Don't worry, there are men out there who prefer intelligent and ... not so self-centered girls.
(If you return in a few days, perhaps I could provide better advice. Right now isn't the proper time, though.)
So you're just addressing this to James, Remus, and Peter, eh?
I'd be miffed. Hell, I'd be more than miffed. I'd shove my wand so far up his...
No, wait. FIRST I'd steal Malfoy's phallic compensation stick and THEN I'd shove THAT so far up his arse that he'd have splinters in his esophogas.
Seriously, boys are stupid. You should pick up Evan's practice of throwing rocks at them.
- R. Black
Er...Evans' not Evan's.
Ugh. Pretend that I have a grasp of the English language, mmkay?
You know, you're right: I think I should open this up to all the males. Not just Marauders.
So you're telling me that what he said was basically a putdown?
Not entirely a put down. It means he trusts you as a friend and to be able to provide intellegent and witty conversation and to BE THERE when shit hits the fan but right now he's just looking for something pretty to stick his penis into.
Quite honestly, most boys that age are looking for just that. It's not really an insult to anyone just a time in their lives when they're being controlled by their hormones.
I'm sure you've heard this countless times but girls mature faster than boys and while you're probably 14 or 15 when you're scampering around really itching to do SOMETHING physically intimate and usually grow out of that irresponsible state by the time you reach college (usually, not always, tree bark girl as example A but then again I'd rather talk to a girl than shag her any day of the week...i'm rambling in parentheses...), boys are juuuuuust reaching it and they need a few years to get their priorities straight and their hormones in check.
And if Sirius asks...ah, nevermind, he won't believe this came out of my mouth anyway.
Hope things improve for you, hun.
Great. So I'm not pretty... but I have a great personality! *grumble*
Thanks for clearing this up!
NO no no, didn't say you're not pretty. Ugh. See...*points to self* boy = stupid.
You may, in fact, be pretty...er...that doesn't sound right. The point is that you're not some vapid...thing that he doesn't have to worry about getting attached to...
I'm just digging myself in deeper aren't I?
It's okay, honest. He and I have an odd relationship... for one thing, he's 19 and I'm 40. We met doing a show at the local community theatre. I have a radio show in the mornings and he comes by and brings me doughnuts and sits and talks to me. Everyone confides in me, and he's no exception.
But it's strange... after we've been talking a while, he'll suddenly decide "ooops, time to leave" and I have to say "Wait a minute, let me start this next song so I can give you a hug." But nope, he's outta there. All of a sudden he'll keep his (physical distance).
Boys are weird.
I've got a right nice pile developed, if you'd like to have some.
I might take you up on that.
